The Lutheran-Northeast Eagles's 12-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They ended the year with a bang, routing Neligh-Oakdale 57-37. Lutheran-Northeast's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Lutheran-Northeast's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emerson Scott, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Rose-hancock, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Neligh-Oakdale still got an impressive performance from Hailey Horstmann, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The game was Horstmann's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Mallory Belitz was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Lutheran-Northeast's win bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Neligh-Oakdale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lutheran-Northeast and Howells-Dodge will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Neligh-Oakdale will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Niobrara/Verdigre at 6:15 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
