If The Fredericksburg Billies were feeling good off their 42-0 takedown of the John F. Kennedy Rockets last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Fredericksburg was beaten by Boerne 47-7 on Friday. Fredericksburg was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-0.
Reed Spies threw for 64 yards on nine of 18 attempts. Weston Herber was his top target, picking up 61 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Aaron Cantu rushed for 32 yards.
Boerne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Igbo, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Igbo was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Baize, who threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 passes.
Fredericksburg's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Boerne, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Fredericksburg will square off against Davenport at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Davenport knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Fredericksburg likes a good challenge. As for Boerne, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Taylor at 7:00 p.m.
