Grand Oaks is 0-5 against College Park since October of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Grizzlies will face off against the Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Grand Oaks took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand Cleveland a 58-0 shutout. That looming 58-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Grizzlies yet this season.
Grand Oaks got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryan Victorian Jr out in front who rushed for 149 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries. Darnell Jackson Jr was in the mix too, providing the Grizzlies with two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Grand Oaks was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 328 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 210 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of JaKobi Andrus, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, College Park strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They breezed past Oak Ridge to the tune of 61-14. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the War Eagles are ranked 312th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grand Oaks better focus on containing Camden Hughes and Antonio Booker as the pair were huge in College Park's win. Hughes threw for 289 yards and three TDs while completing 72.4% of his passes, while Booker gained 92 total yards and three touchdowns. Booker was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Kaylen Stephens was another key player, gaining 113 total yards and a touchdown.
Grand Oaks' record is now 3-1. As for College Park, their record now sits at 4-0.
Things could have been worse for Grand Oaks, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-14 loss to College Park in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hughes, who rushed for 79 yards and one score on only ten carries, and also threw for 100 yards and one touchdown. Now that the Grizzlies know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
