It's playoff time, and Independence had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Greenfield Bruins on Saturday as they made off with a 12-5 win. Considering the 76ers have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Julieta Ramirez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Laila Morales was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Haylie Barben, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Independence's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Greenfield, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-15.
As of now, neither Independence nor the Bruins have any future games scheduled.
