Western Illinois Valley - South recap Oct. 16, 2012
Carrollton extended the longest winning streak in Western Illinois Valley - South this week by beating Unity/Seymour, 35-12. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Hawks.
Jacob Smith and Cole Brannan gave Carrollton a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Smith threw for 88 yards, while Brannan ran for 84 yards. Teammate Jordan Harr added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.
Alex Rodhouse was the best wideout in the league this week as Pleasant Hill/Western lost to Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia. Rodhouse racked up three receptions for 41 yards. Aaron Rodhouse helped Pleasant Hill/Western's passing attack out by catching one ball for one yard.
Ty Pruett made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Wolves fell to the Trojans. The 5-foot-5 sophomore recorded one fumble.
Nick Flowers' team's Smith and Luke Palan have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 619 yards this season, while Palan, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 16 catches for 231 yards. Seth Steroemer from Pleasant Hill/Western leads the league in rushing with 834 yards.
Calhoun/Brussels made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 13,174 from 13,398. The improvement came about via a 55-14 victory over Illinois School for the Deaf last week.
