The Sotomayor WILDCATS were the 46-45 winner over the O'Connor Panthers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Sotomayor was beaten by O'Connor 63-34 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Sotomayor can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 359th, while O'Connor is ranked 123rd).
Sotomayor's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Latrell Hoover, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds. Jasiah Saunders was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Sotomayor struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as O'Connor racked up 20 assists.
O'Connor's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Evan Herrera, who scored nine points along with six assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Barron, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Sotomayor has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-17 record this season. As for O'Connor, they pushed their record up to 21-12 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
