Baseball Game Preview: Odin/Patoka/Sandoval Eagles vs. Centralia Orphans

Odin/Patoka/Sandoval hasn't had much luck against Centralia recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will take on the Orphans at 4:30 p.m.

Things were looking good for Odin/Patoka/Sandoval after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Brownstown/St. Elmo by a score of 6-5.

Austin Hoffman was cooking despite his team's loss, earning one RBI, three runs, and two stolen bases. Odin/Patoka/Sandoval is 2-1 when Hoffman posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. Camden Parrish also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Centralia won against Carbondale on Tuesday with three runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Orphans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Mt. Carmel 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Orphans have posted since April 8th.

Nolan Pryor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rhett Lambert, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Centralia and bumps their season record up to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Odin/Patoka/Sandoval, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Odin/Patoka/Sandoval suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Centralia when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
