After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mesquite, the Gilbert Christian Knights were happy to have found some success on Friday. They put the hurt on Bourgade Catholic with a sharp 43-23 win. That's another feather in the cap for Gilbert Christian, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Gilbert Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lillie Duitsman, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaila Aston, who scored 3 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
When it comes to explaining why Bourgade Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is Juliet Botiller. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds. Botiller scored a full 60.9% of Bourgade Catholic's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Arismendez, who scored 5 points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Bourgade Catholic were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert Christian only pulled down 19.
Gilbert Christian now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Bourgade Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Gilbert Christian will head out on the road to face off against Globe at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Globe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Gilbert Christian is ranked 54th). As for Bourgade Catholic, they will be playing at home against Payson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Payson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
