The Santana Sultans entered their tilt with the Central Spartans with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Santana rang in the new year with a 55-45 victory over Central on Wednesday. For Santana, this counts as revenge for the 65-41 loss Central walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2020.
Santana's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jakob Kielinen, who scored 12 points. The game was Kielinen's fourth in a row with at least ten points. AJ Kane was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daimaggio Wyatt, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds. Wyatt scored a full 42.2% of Central's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Martin, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Santana's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Central, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santana and Granite Hills will face off at 3:30 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Central and High Tech Mesa will face off at 12:30 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
