St. Mary lost against the Sterling Classical Soldiers back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. St. Mary's took a serious blow against Sterling Classical, falling 60-21. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Mary's has scored all season.
St. Mary's loss came despite strong showings from Tyler Zimmerhanzel and Gage Garsee. Zimmerhanzel scored ten points, while Garsee scored six points.
Sterling Classical's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ely McClung, who scored 17 points. Max McDonald was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
This is the second loss in a row for St. Mary's and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Sterling Classical, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Memorial Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Memorial Christian Academy has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 18. As for Sterling Classical, they will head out on the road to take on Providence Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Providence Prep is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
