Calhan had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-9 to make it seven. They came up short against the St. Mary's Pirates, falling 14-7. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 18-1 to the Pirates when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Brody Burnside and Wyatt Crippen stepped up to the plate in a big way. Burnside went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Crippen went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Burnside is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Brock Burnside also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for St. Mary's, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.
On St. Mary's side, Ron Karin made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Karin was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Eberhart, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of St. Mary's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Russell Shirola was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Looking ahead, Calhan will face off against Burlington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for St. Mary's, they will square off against Ellicott at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderhawks have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
