With a playoff game on the line, the Venice Indians rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bulldogs 51-21 at home. Winning may never get old, but Venice sure are getting used to it with their 12th in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Venice to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alvin Johnson iii, who rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Johnson iii's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Jamarice Wilder was another key contributor, rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
Loss or not, DeLand got some senior leadership from Javon Ross who gained 147 total yards and three touchdowns and Tyron Moore who threw for 167 yards and a touchdown.
Venice pushed their record up to 12-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 33.73 points. As for DeLand, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.
Venice will take on Lakeland at 8:00 p.m. on December 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Lakeland is ranked 13th, while Venice is ranked sixth). DeLand does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
