Airport and Wagener-Salley are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Airport barely beat Dreher the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Friday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Avery Ingram was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Emma Maynor was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Airport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Wagener-Salley got the win against North two weeks ago by a conclusive 18-0. Considering the War Eagles have won three matchups by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Makenley Walling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Walling was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashley Nettles, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordan Burkett, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
The win made it two in a row for Wagener-Salley and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Airport, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Wagener-Salley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Airport hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Wagener-Salley, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Airport's hitters?
Everything went Airport's way against Wagener-Salley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Airport made off with a 15-6 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the War Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
