Basketball Recap: Polytechnic Takes a Loss

If Polytechnic was feeling good fresh off their 42-6 takedown of Young Women's Leadership Academy last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Polytechnic Parrots fell 42-30 to the South Hills Scorpions on Friday. The Parrots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Scorpions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Despite the defeat, Polytechnic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Cecilia Aguilar went 5 of 10 en route to 15 points and five rebounds. Aguilar is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

Even though they lost, Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Polytechnic dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for South Hills, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-9.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Trimble Tech the next time they take the court. Polytechnic will head out to face Trimble Tech at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while South Hills will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
