The St. Mary's Lancers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against The Park School of Buffalo Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, St. Mary's was fully in charge, breezing past the Huskies 73-35 at home. 73 seems to be a good number for St. Mary's as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
St. Mary's relied on the efforts of Griffin Smith, who scored 11 points along with two steals, and Israel Wilson, who scored 18 points. Colin Corcoran was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, The Park School of Buffalo's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 97-65 loss at the hands of Bishop Timon-St. Jude. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for The Park School of Buffalo in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Brandon Singleteary, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Jarrell Green, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
The win makes it two in a row for St. Mary's and bumps their season record up to 7-11. As for The Park School of Buffalo, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-12.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. St. Mary's hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57.6 points per game. However, it's not like The Park School of Buffalo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
St. Mary's beat the Pioneers 56-47 in their previous matchup back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Singleteary, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will St. Mary's still be able to contain Singleteary? There's only one way to find out.
