The Middletown Cavaliers had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Sanford and snuck past 53-51. That's another feather in the cap for Middletown, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Despite the defeat, Sanford had strong showings from Stephen Conway, who scored 15 points, and Marquis Newson, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. Newson is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jayden Taylor, who scored no points along with ten rebounds and seven blocks.
Middletown's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Sanford, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-1.
Middletown will take on Fairfax Christian in a holiday battle at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday at. Fairfax Christian is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Sanford will be home for the holidays to greet Delcastle Technical at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
