The Heritage Academy Gateway Heroes pushed their score all the way to 65 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-65 to El Dorado. Heritage Academy Gateway was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as El Dorado apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2017.
When it comes to explaining why Heritage Academy Gateway lost, one person who can't be blamed is Landon Johnston. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points. Johnston continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Mikai Phipps was his usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with five assists and five steals for El Dorado. Phipps is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Chris Zaragoza was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six assists and four steals.
Heritage Academy Gateway are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-4. As for El Dorado, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.
Heritage Academy Gateway will be playing at home against Alta Vista Charter at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.
