Softball Recap: Springstead Continues Road Dominance on Friday

Springstead had won ten straight on the road, but on Friday they bumped up to 16-1 to make it 11. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gulf Buccaneers, sneaking past 4-2. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Buccaneers, too.

Kylee Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Springstead's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kaylana Lyons, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

As for Gulf, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 3, 2025.

On Gulf's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Madisen Fleming gave up only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Jaylisse Martinez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. Olivia Willey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springstead will welcome Wesley Chapel at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Gulf, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Pasco at 7:00 p.m. The Buccaneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
