Basketball Recap: Barrow Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Barrow had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-45 victory over the Kodiak Bears. Given the Whalers' advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Bears are ranked 83rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Barrow was led to victory by Alex Fruean and Jaziah Tivao. Fruean posted 23 points, while Tivao earned 17 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Fruean has scored at least a third of Barrow's points. Another player making a difference was Hunter Wilhelm, who put up seven points.

Christian Enriquez and Kelly Ticman certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Enriquez scored 14 points, while Ticman had 12 points.

Barrow's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Kodiak, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Barrow wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 84-70 victory against Valdez on the 14th. As for Kodiak, they have also already played their next game, a 44-35 defeat against Cordova on the 14th.
