III Section VI recap September 17, 2013
Emanuel Gant and Quntion Garrett provided fans with a highlight when they connected against McClintock. The longest such play in III Section VI this season, the connection resulted in 94 yards.
Thunderbird's BJ Pelt recorded the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against Ironwood last week. Pelt's team defeated the Eagles as he sprinted for 89 yards on the play and finished with 126 in all.
Scottie Jordan was a beast in the backfield as Phoenix Christian lost to Higley.
Gant threw for 352 yards and 5 touchdowns. He went 13-24 with 0 interceptions.
Jordan was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 435 yards on 25 carries as the Cougars topped Independence. Roman Vitale also contributed to the rushing game with 102 yards on the ground.
Gant put up the best numbers through the air as Tempe beat the Chargers. Gant's favorite target this week was Garrett, who caught 4 passes for 159 yards.
Durazo was the best wideout in III Section VI this week as the Rams bested the Patriots. Durazo tallied 5 receptions for 160 yards. Markus Montelongo helped Washington's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 86 yards.
Jordan was a passing and rushing force as Phoenix Christian fell to the Knights. Jordan's favorite target this week was Jordan Leary, who caught 5 passes for 61 yards.
The Buffaloes' Gant and Massiah Smith have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Gant has thrown for 1,022 yards this season, while Smith has 16 catches for 407 yards. Brandon Harris' team's Jordan leads the league in rushing yards with 953.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Tempe's Smith goes up against Thunderbird's Pelt.
Jordan of the the Cougars is only 47 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Next week's game between Brian Walker's team and Brent Wittenwyler's team will feature an aerial matchup as Gant tests his arm against Pelt's defensive ability.
The Buffaloes are in first place, while the Chiefs are in fifth place.
Moon Valley took down Sierra Linda 42-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Shannon Burton threw for 200 yards and ran for 85 yards in the win.
