El Camino is 7-1 against Casa Roble since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The El Camino Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Casa Roble Rams at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
El Camino took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They strolled past Rio Linda with points to spare, taking the game 57-43. The win was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Gavin Bennett was the offensive standout of the matchup as he posted 14 points. Trey Turner was another key player, putting up ten points.
Meanwhile, Casa Roble came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wolves 81-54. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 27 points or more this season.
Casa Roble had a senior duo take command as Benny Ambriz went 10 for 12 en route to 25 points and Moses Oginni went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. Ambriz's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mason Pearcy, who went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points.
Casa Roble smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in four consecutive matches.
Casa Roble's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.3 points per game. As for El Camino, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-11.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Mitchell Stevenson and Ambriz. Stevenson has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 14.9 points. For his part, Ambriz has averaged 18.2 points, 1.8 steals, and 3.3 boards on 55.2% shooting.
Everything came up roses for El Camino against Casa Roble when the teams last played back in February of 2018, as the team secured a 69-27 victory. In that contest, El Camino amassed a halftime lead of 51-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
