Basketball Recap: Stuart W. Cramer Takes a Loss

Stuart W. Cramer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Ashbrook Greenwave, falling 79-43. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 459th, while the Greenwave are ranked 40th).

Despite the loss, Stuart W. Cramer saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tahj Whitley posted eight points and seven boards. That's the most points Whitley has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Dye, who put up four points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Stuart W. Cramer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ashbrook to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamari Smith, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 16 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Issac Byers Jr., who earned nine points along with six steals and five assists.

Stuart W. Cramer's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Ashbrook, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Stuart W. Cramer will head out to take on Kings Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kings Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.2 points per game this season. As for Ashbrook, they will be playing at home against South Point at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ashbrook knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 games -- so hopefully South Point likes a good challenge.
