The Winslow Township Eagles will face off against the Mainland Regional Mustangs at TBD on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Winslow Township comes in on five and Mainland Regional on 12.
Winslow Township extended their postseason success on Friday against Long Branch. They blew past the Green Wave, posting a 41-7 win at home. Considering Winslow Township has won seven contests by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Winslow Township's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deante Ruffin, who threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Cam Miller was another key contributor, picking up 152 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Mainland Regional faced Millville in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mainland Regional was the clear victor by a 35-13 margin over Millville. Considering Mainland Regional has won ten matches by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Winslow Township pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.5 points per game. As for Mainland Regional, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.
Everything came up roses for Winslow Township against Mainland Regional in their previous meeting back in November of 2016 as the squad secured a 46-8 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winslow Township since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
