Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact the Maranatha Christian Eagles proved on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past San Pasqual 52-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Maranatha Christian.
Maranatha Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zeke Walker led the charge by scoring 19 points. The contest was Walker's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian (A.D.) Ownbey, who scored 11 points.
Jonathan Lopez and Isaac Kohlmeier certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Lopez scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Kohlmeier scored 17 points. Samuel M villaume was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Maranatha Christian's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for San Pasqual, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Maranatha Christian will head out on the road to face off against Canyon Crest Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Canyon Crest Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for San Pasqual, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Escondido Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
