The Saint James Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Montgomery Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Saint James has struggled recently with 11 losses in a row, while Montgomery Academy will arrive with six straight victories.
Saint James suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Alabama Christian Academy by a score of 38-36.
Even though Montgomery Academy has not done well against Montgomery Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Montgomery Academy walked away with a 66-54 victory over Montgomery Catholic. Given Montgomery Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Montgomery Catholic is ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Montgomery Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Skyler Stovall out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Stovall has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last ten times he's played. Seth Edwards was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Saint James' loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-10. As for Montgomery Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Saint James lost to Montgomery Academy on the road by a decisive 57-38 margin in their previous matchup last Friday. Can Saint James avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
