Wells is 9-1 against Eureka since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Leopards will venture away from home to take on the Vandals at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wells has ten straight wins, Eureka has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Wells made easy work of Pyramid Lake and carried off a 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won nine games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Aryanna Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit.
On the hitting side, Mayte Casas was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Evelyn Walz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Eureka came up short against Mineral County on Saturday, falling 27-11. Even if the Vandals couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Emma Auch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with nine stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Mya Tognotti was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.
Wells pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Eureka, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wells has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .557. However, it's not like Eureka struggles in that department as they've averaged .554. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wells took their victory against Eureka in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 20-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Leopards since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
