It was a good run, but the Excelsior Charter Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by Silver Valley on the road and fell 80-40. Excelsior Charter found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 12 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Excelsior Charter saw an underclassman step up: Julian Cora scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Cora is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Torres, who scored six points along with two steals.
Jaden Sassone was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with seven steals and five rebounds for Silver Valley. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sassone has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bryan Mitchell, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Excelsior Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Silver Valley, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 24-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Excelsior Charter will take on Magnolia Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Excelsior Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday. As for Silver Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Montclair at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Silver Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
