Springfield Southeast hasn't had much luck against Rochester recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will take on the Rockets at 5:00 p.m.
On Thursday, Springfield Southeast didn't have quite enough to beat Lanphier and fell 2-1. While the Spartans didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 25-19 in the first set.
Springfield Southeast started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-20, 25-19.
Despite the defeat, Springfield Southeast saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josey Grant had 16 digs and two assists.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Rochester and Springfield meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Rockets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Senators, sneaking past 2-1.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Rochester got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-16, 17-25, 25-19.
Springfield Southeast better focus on containing Sam Kerley and Brooklynn Lowder as the pair were huge in Rochester's win. Kerley had 17 digs and one assist, while Lowder had seven digs.
Rochester pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Springfield Southeast, their loss dropped their record down to 6-18.
Springfield Southeast came up short against Rochester in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, falling 2-0. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
