Jordan Gowins of St. Anthony's ran for the longest rushing play in Catholic AAA-AA this season against Holy Cross last week. Gowins scampered for 62 yards on the play and finished with 108 on the day as his team defeated the Knights.
Archbishop Stepinac suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 28-7 loss to Archbishop Stepinac. The Crusaders had been ranked 15th, but fell to 37 following the defeat.
Archbishop Stepinac's dynamic duo of DANIEL HOFFER and TARIK STOVALL proved tough for Kellenberg Memorial to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. HOFFER threw for 108 yards and STOVALL had 72 yards receiving. JUSTIN THOMAS helped Archbishop Stepinac's passing attack out by catching two balls for 18 yards.
Anthony Anderson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 122 yards as St. Anthony's bested the Firebirds.
The Crusaders' HOFFER and STOVALL have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. HOFFER has thrown for 393 yards this season, while STOVALL, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 14 catches for 157 yards. Gowins from Rich Reichert's team leads the league in rushing with 300 yards.
The marquee game in Catholic AAA-AA this week will be the clash between the Friars and Chaminade. St. Anthony's enters the contest ranked eighth in the state, while the Flyers ranks second.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Mt. St. Michael Academy takes on St. Joseph-by-the-Sea. The Mountaineers have allowed 34 points this season, while the Vikings have given up 26. Mt. St. Michael Academy allowed 14 points last week as it topped Fordham Prep.
There should be lots of points scored when the Friars and Chaminade face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, St. Anthony's comes in having scored 77 this season, while Stephen Boyd's team has scored 117. The Friars scored 28 points last week as they bested Holy Cross.
The Flyers were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in the league. Chaminade vanquished Iona Prep 34-31 earlier in the week.
