Baseball Recap: Wayne Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Wayne won the last time they faced Aurora and things went their way on Friday too. The Blue Devils blew past the Huskies 9-1. Considering the Blue Devils have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Adrian Contreras made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxson Kneifl, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. He has become a key player for Wayne: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Drew Reinhardt, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Wayne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Aurora, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Wayne has already played their next game, a 7-1 loss against Concordia/Brownell/Omaha Christian Academy on the 25th. As for Aurora, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-2 defeat against Adams Central on the 25th.
