Virginia City is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Saturday. They will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Wells Leopards at 10:00 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Virginia City lost 23-13 to Non Varsity Opponent on Saturday. The loss was the Muckers' first of the season.

Nanna Lopez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tesla Turley, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, Virginia City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Wells hadn't done well against Carlin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Wells never let Carlin get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The game was the first time the Leopards have beaten the Railroaders on their field since May 6, 2022.
Aryanna Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adriana Aguilar, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Jitzel Rivas, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
Wells' win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Virginia City, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1-1.
