The Spoto Spartans had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Newsome with a sharp 40-18 win. The result was nothing new for Spoto, who have now won four games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Spoto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayla Griffin led the charge by scoring 12 points along with 9 steals and 5 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Griffin has scored at least 25% of Spoto's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Suri Thomas, who scored 11 points along with 4 steals.
Spoto's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Newsome, they have fallen quite a ways from their 20-8 record last season and are now at 1-3.
Spoto will head out on the road to face off against Plant City at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newsome, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sumner at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Sumner presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Newsome in Florida (Sumner is ranked 115th, while Newsome is ranked 242nd).
