Basketball Recap: Midland Adventist Academy Skates Past Ozanam with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Midland Adventist Academy on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Ozanam out of the water with a 79-41 final score. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 53.8 points per game.

Midland Adventist Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aiden Cowan, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 assists. Cowan is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Blake Renfro, who went 7 of 11 en route to 15 points along with eight assists and six boards.

Cowan wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Midland Adventist Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Ozanam's loss came despite strong showings from A.W. Poke and Michael McVey. Poke posted 17 points in addition to eight boards and four steals, while McVey had eight points and ten rebounds. That was a full 41.5% of Ozanam's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Midland Adventist Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Ozanam, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Midland Adventist Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-51 win against St. Vincent de Paul Academy on the 11th. As for Ozanam, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-41 victory against Frontier STEM on the 10th.
