Salem gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Ellington Whippets a 15-0 shutout. The Tigers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024.
Alaina Norris made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Norris was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Salem got a massive performance out of Taylor Fulton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Fulton a new career-high. Reagan DuBois was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salem will take on Bourbon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest will give Salem their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Ellington, they will be playing at home against Scott County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
