The Vincennes Lincoln Alices were the 52-46 winner over the Evansville Central Bears when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Vincennes Lincoln fell 51-40 to Evansville Central on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Vincennes Lincoln can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while Evansville Central is ranked 46th).
Evansville Central found their leader in underclassman Madalynn Shirley, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The match was Shirley's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mimi White, who scored 11 points.
Vincennes Lincoln's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Evansville Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Vincennes Lincoln won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Evansville North at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Evansville North focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Saturday. As for Evansville Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Bloomington South at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bloomington South knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Evansville Central likes a good challenge.
