The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 24 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Gateway Christian with a sharp 50-26 win on Monday. Given Isle of Wight Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Gateway Christian is ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Gateway Christian players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evalyn Snider, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Roth, who scored six points.
The win (which was Isle of Wight Academy's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. As for Gateway Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Isle of Wight Academy will take on Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gateway Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Atlantic Shores Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
