On Tuesday, the Desert Vista Thunder faced the Gilbert Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Desert Vista came out on top against Gilbert by a score of 68-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Desert Vista's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eanae Dagons, who scored 17 points along with eight steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Swindle, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Gilbert lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aspen McClees, who scored 15 points. Meisha Caserio was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Desert Vista has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Gilbert, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Vista will take on Queen Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Queen Creek is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Gilbert, they will be playing at home against Highland at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Highland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Gilbert is ranked fifth).
