Palm Valley will be up against a hot Desert Chapel team: the squad just extended their winning streak to seven. Desert Chapel simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Noli Indian 62-7.
Desert Chapel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Parker Amezcua led the charge by putting up 12 points along with five boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Felix Ochoa, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 10 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.
Desert Chapel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 33 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Palm Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 53 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They breezed by the Lightning to the tune of 69-30. With the FIREBIRDS ahead 44-15 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Palm Valley's win came from a few key players Desert Chapel will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alex Ratner, who dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 11 boards, and ten steals. The match was his third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matteo Lam, who went 9 of 16 en route to 20 points along with eight assists and seven steals.
Palm Valley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.0 points per game. As for Desert Chapel, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2.
