The St. Edward Eagles will take on the Riverside Beavers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Edward proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Normandy 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 21, 2024.
Meanwhile, Riverside had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 18-2 win. Considering the Beavers have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mason Pozo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Riverside's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 11-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ethan Baker, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Mo Dolce was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kirtland only posted an OBP of .211.
St. Edward is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Riverside, they pushed their record up to 17-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
St. Edward came out on top in a nail-biter against Riverside in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Beavers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
