Gateway Christian was outmatched by Hampton Christian Academy on the road and fell 50-12. Gateway Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-7.
Gateway Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Hallie Roth, who scored 6 points, and Lanyah Franklin who scored 5 points. Roth scored a full 50% of Gateway Christian's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Broadwater Academy gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They secured a 35-31 W over Chincoteague.
Leah Smith was the offensive standout of the contest as she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Portsmouth Christian's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Gateway Christian's loss dropped theirs to 1-3.
Gateway Christian was taken down by Broadwater Academy 48-15 when the teams last played back in January.
