After flying high against the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars last Saturday, the Stanton Mustangs came back down to earth. The contest between Stanton and Plainview wasn't particularly close, with Stanton falling 43-29. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Stanton in their matchups with Plainview: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Stanton saw an underclassman step up: Skyler Siebrandt scored four points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Siebrandt hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games.
It was another big night for Abbie Kromarek, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and six steals for Plainview. That makes it four consecutive games in which Kromarek has scored at least a third of Plainview's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelynn Dougherty, who scored nine points along with seven steals.
Stanton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Plainview, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Twin River on January 23rd. Twin River has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Plainview won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hartington-Newcastle at 6:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Hartington-Newcastle will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
