The Penn Cambria Panthers fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Bishop Carroll Huskies on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 79-69 loss to the Huskies. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (67), Penn Cambria still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Penn Cambria had strong showings from Carter McDermott, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds, and Easton Semelsberger, who scored 19 points. The contest was McDermott's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Caden Gibbons, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Penn Cambria were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Luke Repko continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bishop Carroll, scoring 33 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which Repko has scored at least 25% of Bishop Carroll's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Casses, who scored 21 points.
Penn Cambria bumped their record down to 4-6 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Bishop Carroll, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Penn Cambria will take on Chestnut Ridge at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Bishop Carroll, they will be playing at home against Bishop Guilfoyle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Guilfoyle presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bishop Carroll in Pennsylvania (Bishop Guilfoyle is ranked 98th, while Bishop Carroll is ranked 211th).
