Portsmouth West has gone a perfect 3-0 against Northwest recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Senators will take on the Mohawks at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Portsmouth West barely beat Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Senators blew past the Indians 44-20 on Friday. The score was close at halftime, but the Senators pulled away in the second half with 32 points.

Portsmouth West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Bishop led the charge by rushing for 139 yards and three TDs. Bishop's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 137 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Adkins, who picked up 143 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Northwest made easy work of Vinton County on Friday and carried off a 43-22 win.
Portsmouth West better focus on containing Jake Brown and Carson Christian as the pair were huge in Northwest's win. Brown rushed for 105 yards and one score on only 13 carries, while Christian gained 157 total yards and four touchdowns. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 100.3 rushing yards per game.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Northwest's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jaxon Powell and Aidden Armbrister, who racked up four sacks between them. Armbrister has become a key player for Northwest: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 1-3 otherwise.
The victory was the third in a row for Portsmouth West, bringing their record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.7 points over those games. As for Northwest, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.
Everything came up roses for Portsmouth West against Northwest when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 35-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Senators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
