Softball Recap: Fort Wayne South Side Takes a Loss

Fort Wayne South Side had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-4 to make it ten. They came up short against the Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran Cadets, falling 14-0. The Archers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cadets from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 6, 2024 (when they won 15-0).

For Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran's part, Haley Hoffman and Reagan Vowles made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hoffman struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Vowles pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Hoffman a new career-high. At bat, Hoffman went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Vowles went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Abagail Weaver and Raelyn Koesters did most of the damage at the plate: Weaver went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Koesters got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Weaver a new career-high. Sienna Walker was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Wayne South Side will welcome Fort Wayne Wayne at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Generals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.8 runs per game on average), something the Archers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Lakewood Park Christian at 5:00 p.m. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.64 runs per game on average), something the Cadets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
