2A-1 Region II District 6 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Caddo Mills moved up to 653 from 695 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 6. The Foxes climbed the ranks as a result of topping Howe 34-15.
Pottsboro extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Commerce, 21-18. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Cardinals.
Daxx Hill was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 179 yards as Caddo Mills lost to Caddo Mills. Damian Newby also contributed to the rushing game with 60 yards on the ground.
Jones was the best wideout in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week as Howe fell to Steve Sumrow's team. Jones racked up 11 receptions for 204 yards. Lane Rodgers helped Howe's passing attack out by catching two balls for 18 yards.
Sam Wells put up the best numbers through the air as the Tigers lost to Pottsboro. He finished with a total of 13 completions for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Wells' favorite target this week was Buck Wilson, who caught three passes for 76 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Ryan Cottingame of Sunnyvale is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1580. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. On the ground, the Foxes' Hill has rushed for 981 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dallas Sewell. The Pottsboro star has 34 catches for 901 yards.
Caddo Mills' Hill is a mere 19 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
Sewell of the Matt Poe's team's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 99 receiving yards in this week's game against Van Alstyne to get there.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cardinals take on the Panthers. Pottsboro is in first place, while Van Alstyne is in seventh place.
The Foxes made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,836 from 7,284. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 34-15 victory over Joe Watson's team last week.
