The Southwest EC Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Holtville Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Southwest EC blew San Ysidro out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday San Ysidro got their revenge. The Eagles fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 24-21. On the bright side, the 21- point effort marked the Eagles' highest-scoring game to date.
Despite the loss, Southwest EC had strong showings from Joshua Ibarra, who picked up 70 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Thomas Gomez, who threw for 154 yards and a pair of TDs.
Southwest EC didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Joe Johnston and Leonardo Valenzuela. Johnston got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Holtville waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They breezed past the Cougars to the tune of 48-6. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 25 points or more this season.
Southwest EC better keep an eye on Enrique Armas. He was instrumental in Holtville's win, rushing for 217 yards and four scores on only ten carries. Armas' longest rush was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Holtville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 281 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 176 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Southwest EC's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Holtville, their record is now 4-1.
Southwest EC was taken down by Holtville 64-0 in their previous meeting back in August of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Armas, who rushed for 53 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Now that the Eagles know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
