The Carroll Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Leo Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Carroll barely beat Columbia City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chargers never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday. Carroll's win was all the more impressive since the Eagles were averaging only 3.75 runs allowed on the season.
Carroll got a great performance from Logan Inman as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Inman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Chargers are 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaxon Sparks, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Carroll is 2-1 when Sparks posts three or more RBI, but 1-2 otherwise. Asher Wagoner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Carroll always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Leo put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Fort Wayne Northrop with a sharp 17-6 victory. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Howie Pooler and Dominic Rennecker did most of the damage at the plate: Pooler scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Rennecker went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Rennecker has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ethan Wudy, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Leo pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Carroll, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Carroll has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Leo struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carroll couldn't quite finish off Leo in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
