The Campo Verde Coyotes will venture away from home to take on the Canyon View Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Campo Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Campo Verde fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Higley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 4-3. Coyotes fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Knights since on Monday.
Wyatt Rauch was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Canyon View entered their tilt with Yuma on Monday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Criminals a 7-0 shutout. Considering the Jaguars have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Cason Hagerman's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Canyon View let Ethan Santoyo and Rolando Valles run wild. Santoyo scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Valles went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Valles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Berlan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Canyon View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yuma struck out nine times.
Canyon View's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Campo Verde, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Campo Verde hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Canyon View struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
