Sun Valley is on an eight-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Avon Grove a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Sun Valley Vanguards will host the Avon Grove Red Devils at 4:00 p.m.
Sun Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Oxford by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Jackson Messick was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Messick wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaden Comisiak, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. That run was Comisiak's first of the season. Logan Howe was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Avon Grove posted their closest win since May 13, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past Unionville 4-2.
Avon Grove also got a great performance from Devin Rinker as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Rinker also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Red Devils are undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.
At the plate, Reid Mamula was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Sun Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Avon Grove, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Sun Valley might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Avon Grove in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Vanguards have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
