5A Region 2 recap October 1, 2013
Pearl's Jordan Wright rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Region 2 this season in his game against Neshoba Central last week. Wright ran for 58 yards on the play and finished with 105 on the day as his team topped the Rockets.
Callaway added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Germantown, 12-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Chargers.
Pearl's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ledarius Carpenter threw for 213 and 2 touchdowns and Demorrious Brown had 123 yards receiving. On the ground Wright chipped in 105 yards. Chris Cooper helped Pearl's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 52 yards.
He was 10-14 with 1 interception.
Wright was the most successful running back in the league this week. Carpenter also contributed to the rushing game with 83 yards on the ground.
Pearl's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Pirates feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carpenter has thrown for 1,113 yards and 4 touchdowns this season, while Brown has 27 catches for 667 yards.
At the moment, the Mavericks are in fourth, while Vicksburg is in third.
The Gators took down Lanier 68-16 last week, the largest margin of any game.
